Since 2004 I have successfully taught at Levels 3, 4, 5 and 6, as well as at a professional level, in colleges and universities in the UK.
From this experience I have found that the most effective, efficient and fulfilling approach to teaching and assessment is to primarily engage in an active and informed discussion with the student about the topics and/or issues at hand.
In turn, this discussion should be supported not only by the textual and audio-visual learning materials I provide, but also by the detailed annotations the student makes and then researches independently at a later date.
In this way the student will take then ownership of their learning and, ultimately, learn to teach themselves.
