ABOUT
Raised on a deprived council estate in a former mining town in Nottinghamshire throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Brett Gregory is a former lecturer in Film Studies, Cultural Studies, Access to HE, and Media Production who has been writing, directing, editing and producing films in Manchester since 2005.
His filmography includes the independent music documentaries 'Iceland: Beyond Sigur Rós' (2010), 'Manchester: Beyond Oasis' (2012) and 'Liverpool: Beyond The Beatles' (2015), as well as his critically acclaimed, multi-award winning working-class feature film, 'Nobody Loves You and You Don't Deserve to Exist' (2022).
From June 2023 he occupied the UK Desk (Film and Culture) for the weekly arts and culture radio show, Arts Express, on WBAI 99.5 FM in New York. Then, after being evicted and following a period of homelessness, he was appointed as an Associate Editor (Film, Culture, and Academia) in February 2024 by the UK arts, culture and politics website, Culture Matters.
Brett - who cites Jorge Luis Borges, John Morlar, and Carl Bugenhagen as his influences - decided to found the Serious Feather website and the Serious Feather Arts podcast in order explore the meaningful artistic and academic pursuits of others - publications, productions and projects that challenge, excite and nourish - to then promote them to a wider audience without pay.
In short, this non-profit platform is for people who have the passion and purpose to embrace the intellectual and the intense, and to marginalise the mainstream and the mediocre.
